Cody Anderson

Cody and Amy were married in 2002.  Three years later they welcomed Hutton into their home, shortly after this joyous event the Anderson’s nightmare began as Cody became extremely sick and was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis.  Because of the all-consuming nature of the illness, Cody had to quit his job and after 2 years of pain and anguish, they opted for surgery.  Generally, it takes two surgeries to get back on your feet, but Cody had several complications, resulting in multiple hospitalizations and several other corrective surgeries.

In 2009 Cody was on the mend, devoting himself to his family and giving them the life they deserved!  They were even lucky enough to have one more child, Huston.  In the spring of 2010 he was hit again, this time he was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC).  This disease damages and blocks bile ducts inside and outside the liver and by winter 2011 Cody was once again admitted to the hospital due to a bleeding ulcer close to his liver.  They were told that his liver was enlarged and was not operating at 100%.  After the failure of a stent placement he was given his last option; He needed a liver transplant at the age of 31.  Shockingly, a Liver Transplant is considered an elective surgery, and the insurance does not cover everything.

About the Event

Location: Taylor Ward church house (2200 S 4300 W Taylor, Ut 84401)

Activities:

  • 5K fun run starts at 4:30 pm
  • Dinner starts at 5:00 pm
  • Silent Auction/ Live Auction

  • Balloon Launch

We will be having a balloon launch at the event in support of Cody and his family.  The balloons will start at $2/balloon (donations have been as much as $400/balloon).  This will be a spiritual time for all involved.  Contact Deanne, Marjean, or send your money and a hopeful message to be placed in the balloon to:

***We are so pleased to announce that John Canaan, one of the most recognizable voices in the Utah music industry has graciously agreed to sing at Cody's event!  He is the original male voice to Michael McLean's songs You're Not Alone and Together Forever, which have been heard by millions all over the world.

Organizing Committee Meeting

We had an incredible first organizer's meeting!  Lots of excitement and lots of incredible people.  Thank you all for doing anything for a friend!  The next Organizing Committee Meeting will be held on Saturday, May 7th at 4:00pm at Deanne's house (670 Lavina Dr., South Ogden).  We look forward to seeing everyone there and are excited for all of your input!

Amy looks on as she listens to Chantelle Thomson, the owner of Diviine Modestee, an incredible business and organization in Pleasant Grove, Utah.  Chantelle was letting Amy know how touched she was with Cody's story and that she wanted to help!  In one days time, Chantelle has brought together 5 baskets, donated two 1year supplies of food storage (valued between $1500 to $1800 each), and Cody will be the first on a fund called the Diviine Deed Fund, where Chantelle and her company will donate 2% of their gross sales for the month to Cody and his family.  Everyone who listened to the conference call was touched by the unbelievable generostiy and unselfishness of Chantelle and Diviine Modestee.  She is an example for all of us about letting your light shine (Matt. 5:14-16) and serving those in need (Mosiah 2:17).  THANK YOU CHANTELLE AND DIVIINE MODESTEE.

Anderson Family! We are so freaking excited for this event we can't wait. It is going to be the best turnout for a benefit dinner. Traig is like a walking advertisement about it and I am pretty sure the whole class of 98, half of 97, and half of 99 will be there. It is amazing how many people are wanting to come and help so we can't wait. Amy you are a SAINT! Keep the faith and keep your spirits up because better days are ahead. We love you guys.

I am best friends with Cody's cousin Brecklyn, so when I got the text about the fundraiser, I really wanted to help. I recently had a great Uncle pass away in December of 2010 due to cancer complications. If he had not had his liver and kidney transplants starting 20 years ago, he definitely would have missed out on a lot within the family. I have a huge soft-spot in my heart for people needing transplants, because if my great uncle had not had his, I never would have had the chance to meet him and get to know how great of a person he really was. So you can count on seeing me at the 5k on June 4th! I wish Cody and his family all the luck in the world, and I hope that his family can keep him around for years to come!

I will never forget last night, It was so unbelievable. The food, the company, the balloons, the colors, the sounds, the generosity of everyone! Some comments from Cody's event that I'll never forget: "This is the best event that has ever happened in Taylor, if someone wasn't there they really lost out on the best thing that ever happened, the people in this community are the best on the earth - just accept it" I was totally overwhelmed by the love, support, and generosity that was displayed before, during, and after Cody's event. My life also has been changed because of being a part of such an amazing event on Saturday. The out pouring of love over the last few months cannot be described by words. Throughout my life I will be "paying it forward" so that others may feel this same love that has been given to our family!
