Alan Blood

Our hearts are deeply saddened today to report that Alan Blood, warrior and brother in pink passed away yesterday (October 15 2016). Alan had an incredible way of entering into your heart with a single word or a smile and changing you forever. His smile would light up the room, and his optimism and fighting spirit would shed light on even the darkest of circumstances. He learned the art of cherishing each and every moment and truly celebrating every victory! Many of us cherish memories of Alan, his family, and their impact and will use those memories to move forward through the pain that we feel today. We are particularly mindful of Michelle and the kids and ask that you keep them in your prayers and in true Anything for a Friend fashion, please consider what your ANYTHING might be in this circumstance…Choose to be active in your pain and turn it for the good of Alan’s little family.

God speed my friend until we meet again!

Alan was diagnosed with STAGE 2B breast cancer (node+,ER+,PR+,Her2-) in 2011. After a mastectomy, lymph node removal, and a rigorous dose-dense AC+T chemo regimen, Alan's cancer was thought to be in remission. Despite 4 years of tamoxifen hormone therapy, on September 19th, 2015 his cancer not only returned, but metastasized throughout his lungs, spine, chest, hips, and brain. Alan is receiving weekly infusions of taxol chemotherapy and monthly bone-strengthening medication. He is also starting a 15-day schedule of radiation therapy on his brain where multiple cancerous lesions have been found. His doctors have a great plan of action and his family has a lot of hope. They know the fight that is ahead is difficult and so do we. We want to take some of that burden away and make their load a little lighter. Alan has done that so many times for so many people. He is such a selfless person and is always looking out for everyone else. We live in an amazing neighborhood with a great ward. He has touched so many lives we decided to ask those around him to write about his character and share some experiences.

Over the past several years Alan has had more than his share of health problems. During his first bout with breast cancer and subsequent health challenges I have been impressed with Alan’s ability to maintain a positive disposition and optimistic attitude.   Despite the visible challenges associated with his treatments I have never heard him complain.

Alan is a loving father who thinks little of himself.  His wife and children are his primary concern.  I and many others are committed to helping Alan and his family during this trying time.  We do so because we know that Alan is a great man who would do the same for us if the situation were reversed. “WILL YOU PLEASE JOIN US IN DOING ANYTHING FOR A FRIEND?!"
