You are not alone if you remain in awe about the outpouring of love for Jen and her family. It was amazing! Thank you all for your part in bringing such an amazing event to life. We will be talking about this for years to come. Many have been breathless in anticipation about the amount raised for the Thorpe's...DRUM ROLL PLEASE...All of the love and support generated more than $48,000 and it continues to come in!!!!!! Thank you for doing ANYTHING FOR A FRIEND and may God continue to bless Jen and her family. HOPE ON, JOURNEY ON. ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE TO THEM THAT BELIEVE!
In the April of 2013 everything was going great for the Thorpe family. Everyone was healthy although for the last couple of months Jen had consistently found blood in her stool. She found it unusual and concerning and so she decided to see her gynecologist, who then referred her for a colonoscopy. That test revealed six polyps in her colon and rectum. Pathology showed that she also had Rectosigmoid colon cancer with high-grade adenocarcinoma extending through all layers of the bowel wall. Fifteen of her 29 lymph nodes were positive and her liver biopsy showed metastatic adenocarcinoma. Her diagnosis was Stage 4 Metastatic Colon Cancer. That was hard news to take being a mother of three children, at only 44 years old. However, Jen was very brave and she started chemotherapy treatments immediately.
From this point on the Thorpe’s world turned upside down. What once was a calm and normal life, suddenly changed into a life filled emergency trips in ambulances, chemotherapy, sleepless nights, suffering, and many tears shed. But even through all these trying experiences Jen never complains. Even though she has severe pain, she still tries to relieve the suffering of others.
Jen's husband reflected that in Jen’s prayers she thanks God for this cancer trial. Instead of saying, “Why me?” she asks, “Why not me?” This is who Jen is. Even during this extremely difficult trial, she still finds ways to serve and to love. We are so excited to ANYTHING FOR our FRIEND JEN!
