Erik and Jeanine met on August 1, 2009. Since meeting Erik and Jeanine have been inseparable. They are both outgoing and incredibly loving people. On their days off from work they loved to spend time with Erik's nephews and their family, which seemed to prepare them for one of the biggest blessings in their lives...
On October 3, 2010 they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Mila Susan Garcia. She was 7lbs 9oz and 20 inches long. Mila was the most beautiful and healthy baby you could ever ask for. Since day one she has slept thru the night and always been happy and smiling.
When Mila was 3 months old she started having problems with her eye sight. Erik and Jeanine took their beautiful baby to see a pediatric Optometrist only to find that their baby girl could not see with her beautiful blue eyes!
Once they realized that Mila could not see, they were sent for an MRI, which revealed the hardest news of their lives; Mila had had a stroke in vitro, which caused the blood flow to be cut off to her developing brain. This resulted in only half of her brain developing, while the other half was filled with fluid, which is now causing pressure in her tiny head.
Our hope is to raise the funds necessary to get baby Mila to Packard Children’s Hospital, so that she may receive the expert medical attention that she so richly deserves. Please join us in supporting this sweet family by doing ‘Anything for a Friend’!

Sweet Mila has undergone many tests while in San Francisco and true to form has been incredibly brave and resilient. Mila’s name actually means miracle in Spanish (milagro) and she is indeed that and an example to us all.
The test results revealed that Mila has a disorder called Porencephaly, which is an extremely rare disorder of the central nervous system in which a cyst or cavity filled with cerebrospinal fluid develops in the brain. This cyst, for Mila, was the result of the stroke that she endured while in vitro. With the excess fluid that has been building in her brain (Hydrocephalus), she has experienced damage to her fragile brain tissue. The extent of the damage is unknown for now, but we do know that they must relieve the pressure so she does not suffer further damage!
With all of the pressure that has been in her tiny head, she has also developed a Papilledema cyst on her optic nerve, which may result in permanent blindness. Mila and her family need us to help with Mila’s miracle and that is why we have called our efforts ‘Hope for Mila’. We are excited to put on an ‘Anything for a Friend’ event for this little angel to help with the expenses that are sure to come and then we will pray for miracles and watch for God’s hand to be revealed in her life…
