Rex has never been one to do things at half speed. Even as a child, Rex would set his mind to something and would stay focused on the goal until he reached it. He has always had a passion for helping others which can be seen through various pursuits and achievements throughout his life. He lived up to the scouting motto, “Do a Good Turn Daily,” and earned the rank of Eagle Scout at age 13. He has also certified and worked as both an EMT and volunteer firefighter.
At the start of 2019 he was in the Phoenix police academy to be a State Trooper when he was injured in training and was unable to continue. That injury and subsequent physical therapy meant taking time to focus on healing and working on getting back to full strength. During this time, he noticed a lump in his armpit, and upon medical examination physicians initially thought was just from the lymph not draining. That lump grew in size and became quite uncomfortable, so the surgeon decided to do a biopsy. The lab results of the biopsy came back positive for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. We feel lucky that we caught it early on since the test results came back showing the cancer to be Stage 1B and that means there is a much higher chance of being fully cured after treatment.
Instead of seeing this as a negative thing in his life, he is choosing to focus on what good can come from it all. He has partnered up with several other like-minded individuals to form a nonprofit organization that focuses on helping other cancer patients and their families have some reprieve during the stress and trauma that occurs during any cancer treatment plan. Having over 15 years’ experience as a landscape photographer, and the passion to help others, his vision for the nonprofit is to create and capture these memorable experiences for other fellow cancer patients and their families in the therapeutic environment of the outdoors.
While the formation of this new nonprofit is what Rex would like to focus on, he does have an ever increasing amount of medical bills adding up with the needed surgeries, tests, and chemotherapy treatments. He wants to give everyone who is able to help a print. Please pick your favorite image and a donation amount that works for you. Any assistance that you can offer would be greatly appreciated!
