After shocking doctors and loved ones alike with his zest, zeal, and fight for life, our dear friend and hero Rich “T-Bone” Thompson passed like a warrior from this life on Sunday October 27th 2013. Through the pain, tears, and broken hearts we are all left with the indelible and personal impression that he has left for every single one of us—for some it is strength and laughter, for others peace, and maybe for some a little fear ;), but for everyone that was privileged enough to be able to rub shoulders with him, we are left with an example of how to fight to our own finish—how to endure to the end!
This earth will never be the same and I trust that Heaven has just been altered in a powerful manner. I know that Rich’s strength, love, and support will continue to be felt in all of our lives and it would take more than a few angels to keep him for coming to the aid of his sweet family and dear friends. He loved life! He loved his family and he treasured his friends. We love you with all our hearts and will miss you until we see you again friend…and we will see you again! Thank you for showing us the way.
With all my heart,
Becky
**A Viewing T-Bone will be held this Friday at Meyers Mortuary in ROY from 6:00 pm until 8:30 and the funeral will be held at the Thompson's Roy ward, 4275 S. 2175 W, at 11:00 am.
Special thanks to all of the love and giving hearts that came out in support of Rich and his sweet family! We are so happy to report that over $40,000 was brought in (and we are still counting)! Great job to everyone and thank you for literally doing ANYTHING FOR A FRIEND.

In the words of one of his best friends Cortney Ryan:
"I am honored to have the privilege of writing this letter of need regarding my dear friend Richard Thompson. I met Rich in 2002, while working for the Weber County Sheriff’s Office in the correction division. The first time I really met Rich was one day while I was working central control. This is where the entire jail is controlled and those entering and leaving the facility have to identify themselves. One of the speakers rang and I answered the call. At the other end the person identified themselves as “T-bone.” Well working in a correctional setting someone identifying themselves as “T-bone” caught me well off guard. I looked at the second officer who was working with me and he just said let him in it’s “T-bone.” I thought to myself who calls themselves by their nickname. So I sought out to meet this famous “T-bone.”
Over the years I got to know “T-bone” really well. I got the chance to work closely with Rich for several years. During this time we spent many of nights with each other serving the citizens of Weber County. We got to know a lot about each other during this time.
Twelve hour graveyards shifts can get rather lonely!! Back in 2006 Rich came to me with a proposal. Rich wanted me to go out with one of his wife’s friends on a blind date. Rich convinced me it was a good idea and I ended up going. That was the night I met my lovely wife, Brandi. I owe Rich and his wife a lot for setting me up with my bride to be. Over the next several years we became very close families.
Rich is an admirable man. He has served his country in the United States Navy and has served the state of Utah for over a decade in law enforcement. Rich is also a dedicated father of two children, Keaton (16) and Averi (9). Rich married his high school sweetheart and just three years ago they were all sealed in the LDS temple.
Rich was recently awarded the “Chief’s Award” for his dedicated service the citizen of South Jordan City where he is a police officer. Rich’s contagious smile is infectious. Rich is always able to bring a smile to a sad face, a laugh to a broken heart and hope to a shattered soul.
In the month of May Rich became sick. After many of test and misdiagnoses, Rich was diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer. By the time the diagnosis came, the cancer had also spread to the liver. Rich has spent many days in the hospital with severe pain in the stomach. Rich has started chemotherapy treatments which have been extremely hard on him. Between the constant pain and sickness from chemotherapy, Rich has been unable to return to work.
I personally have not researched to much about the cancer that Rich has. I have heard from many people that the outcome is not good. I refused to accept the fact that my dear friend is so sick. I refused to allow myself to think that I may lose a brother."
Humbly and Sincerely,
Cortney Ryan
