Weber State was overwhelmed with love and support for Tami and her family on Saturday the 8th and after a beautiful morning and early afternoon full of touching expressions of love for the Flanery's, we are so happy to report that over $32,000 was generated at the event. Many thanks to the outstanding organizing committee lead by Ms. Susie! You are an unforgettable group and the stories coming out of the planning and execution of this event will be used to inspire groups for years to come. Thank you all for literally doing ANYTHING FOR A FRIEND!
Tami Flanery, 53 years old was diagnosed with mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix in July 2011. At that time she was only given 6 months to live. 9 months later she remains positive about a treatment even though appendix cancer’s rarity means that those who are diagnosed with it are often left with little of the support that other cancer patients rely on. The only successful, recommended treatment plan is cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. Presently there are very few states where this treatment is available. She currently has an appointment with oncologist, Dr. Laura Lambert at the University of Massachusetts medical center this Thursday, April 19th, 2012. She is there now with her sister Judy, we are waiting for the results from that appointment.
To have known Tami for over 30 years has been the most unusual, exciting, loving and surprisingly experience of my life. She is the most genuine person that I know. “What you see is what you get”. I wish that over the 30 years I had written down all of her unique sayings, there are thousands of them and they are priceless. They always hit the nail on the head for the situation at hand. i.e.” I always get the neck of the chicken” & “I’m as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs”. They randomly fly out of her mouth as part of her conversation and definitely are part of her vocabulary. She is indeed unique and special!
With all of the financial and life hardships that her family has experienced (they seem to have had more than any family should have), she is always smiling laughing, cheering up others and loves life. Tami has lived an incredibly giving life and now she needs our help. Please join us in doing ‘Anything for a Friend’!Event Date: September 8, 2012
