The Event Results are in and with all of the love, support and generosity we raised $52,595.02 for Todd and Cassie!  Thank you all for your giving hearts.

 

Todd White

Todd is an “All-American” kind of guy and life with his sweet wife Cassie seemed to be the “All-American” dream as they welcomed their 4th child into the world in July of 2011.  Their dream took a sharp and dark turn just days after the baby was born when Todd was diagnosed with Colon Cancer at the age of 33. 

Todd underwent surgery to remove the grapefruit sized tumor that had invaded his body.  He had a number of life threatening complications to this first surgery but was finally able to come home only to endure 12 rounds of chemo.  He faced the cancer the way he had faced everything in his life—with optimism and determination.  Months after completing the chemotherapy everything appeared great as all of his tests came back clear!  All of his loved ones took a huge sigh of relief.

The relief was not long and at a subsequent check-up, they found the tumor was back and a more aggressive surgery was done to remove the portion of the colon where the tumor was growing.  The surgery was very hard on Todd and again he had severe complications.  After a 2-week stay in the hospital he was finally able to return home to his tiny family and valiantly faced another 12 rounds of chemo.

It has now been 16 months since his first diagnosis and the White family has weathered the storm beautifully and is an example for all of us of true love, bravery, and perseverance.  However, the cost of saving Todd’s “All-American” life has put a mountainous financial strain on them.  Please join Todd’s friends and family in tearing down that mountain by doing ANYTHING FOR A FRIEND!

To give an idea of who Todd White is, read the following letter from one of his best friends, Jamey Powell:

"I met Todd White ten years ago and he has consistently been an amazing example to me. He has been my friend, my mentor, and the measure of a man that I will hold myself and all others to. Over the past year and a half he has faced great adversity in the form of cancer, and through the surgeries and multiple chemotherapy treatments, he has emerged as more than a man, he has become a hero. A true hero. He has defined what a real hero is and what it takes to become one.

Todd is a product of amazing parents, wonderful siblings and extended family members and most importantly, a brilliant and incredible wife. He would be the first to give them credit for any and all of his successes. He and his wife Cassie will be the last ones to want or accept recognition for a life time full of small victories on the behalf of others. Their constant love for others has made both of them the amazing people they are today.

I have seen Todd give everything he has to give… on many occasions. I have seen him give everything for his family, for his friends, for his community, for his career, for his various teams during multiple sporting events, for his health during workouts, and I have seen him work tirelessly to fulfill his responsibilities for his church and his Father in Heaven. He doesn’t know how to quit. He pushes himself to physical and spiritual exhaustion and he does it all out of the pure love that he has for everyone he meets. He treats them like family, he sees them for who they hope to be, and when they walk away from just a short conversation with him they are better for it. People love him for how he makes them feel.

Adversity often exposes weaknesses inherent in all of us and we all deal with it differently. It leaves some of us broken, causes some of us to hide and ignore the problem, but Todd took the opportunity to teach the principle of eternal perspective. Because of his example and influence, his cynical friends have become hopeful and his faithless friends have found reason to return to bended knee in humility.

Heroes are not made by simply overcoming a tragedy, they are made through years of unwavering dedication to hard work, absolute honesty, sincerity and compassion. Overcoming a tragedy defines the hero they have always been. Todd and his beautiful family, and his extended family, motivate others to be better people and become heroes themselves when they are thrust into a refiners fire of their own. They perpetuate personal strength and prove the indomitable nature of the human spirit.

F. Scott Fitzgerald once wrote, "show me a hero and I will write you a tragedy." Todd is a hero to many and what has happened to him and his family is truly a tragedy. BUT, If Mr. Fitzgerald met Todd White today, I believe he would append his quote to read something like this, "Show me a hero and I will show you a person that has consistently lived a life with no regrets, has made the world a more beautiful place to live in and has overcome tragedy with extraordinary composure. I will show you Todd and Cassie White." It's an honor and privilege to know them and I will gladly stand side by side many others to welcome the opportunity to help them in any way we can."
